The Challenge
Opentext wanted to create a more engaged and active workforce, empowering their employees to take time away from their desk, especially during times of the month when it can be extremely busy and stressful. The wellbeing team wanted to encourage employees to take a break, get active and return refreshed and able to focus but had no way of monitoring if this was happening. They also wanted to encourage people back into the office to build back the community feel and re-engage colleagues. The key objectives were:
- Promote physical wellbeing within the business
- Return to an engaged work community
- Measure the impact of empowering colleagues to take time for daily exercise
- Enabling long-term behavioural change by creating a healthy, active workplace culture
- Team build and have some fun!

Delivering the OpenText Active Hub
The team deployed an all-inclusive initiative that is aimed at all physical abilities with participants taking part before, during and after work. Within the always-on Opentext Active Hub, we designed the ‘Move for 30’ event; a team-based challenge aimed to get the employees moving for a minimum of 30 minutes every day for one month, in teams of six, with a daily activity of their choice. The challenge was also created to bring together team members from different departments and to keep them motivated with achievable goals.

Looking to the future
With such an engaged community, OpenText have worked alongside Total Active Hub to create a calendar full of motivational challenges to keep their employees active together throughout the year. With new activity insights and the feedback we received, it gave us a picture of the company’s behavioural patterns, allowing us to tailor events specifically to OpenText employees. We are deploying new initiatives for each member of the OpenText Active Hub, including our sustainability event Active Trees where we convert physical activity into mother nature.
