How do you like to keep active? What activities do you enjoy the most?
I have a dog that keeps me active and walk with him almost every day, I have different friends’ groups that I do different activities with, a running group and a walking group. I do parkrun when I am not on shift on Saturdays and am in a running club that meets every Wednesday, again if I am not on shift. We have just found a running orienteering group that some of the running club have started doing so will hopefully be doing more of those.
Why do you feel it is important to lead a physically active lifestyle?
To help keep me healthy and getting into my 50’s I feel I really need to stay healthy to keep working. All my friends groups are active so that is good for chatting and keeping my time full.
How does the Active Hub platform support your physical movement?
Doing the challenges motivates me to get out even if I don’t feel like it but always feel better afterwards.
We have quite a competitive group at work that keeps us all on our toes. I do try to motivate our group on a teams group I have set up although over the summer it has been a bit hit and miss with holidays.
How has participating in Active Hub events helped increase your engagement with other colleagues?
I set up a Teams group to engage as many of our team as possible, some are more engaging than others but it’s always a fun group with a bit of banter to try and encourage those not as active.
Has having the Active Hub in place via your employer enabled you to lead a more active lifestyle?
On a personal note, absolutely. I definitely wouldn’t be doing my round the block walk after a 12 hr shift if it wasn’t being tracked by my Active Hub team members (lol)
What is your current active goal?
After breaking my leg last year and having a lot of time out from walking and running I am now regaining my strength. I am now back up to doing 5k running but can walk a lot further. My goal is to try and get back to 10k all be it very slowly.
From broken leg to 5k and the goal is to get to 10k before the end of the year!
