How do you like to keep active? What activities do you enjoy the most?
I really enjoy running and hiking, actually since Active Hub finished and (and thanks to Active Hub) I signed up for a 100-km Hike over the Southdown’s way nonstop which has to be completed within 30 hours.
Why do you feel it is important to lead a physically active lifestyle?
Before Active Hub, I wasn’t the most active of people. However, this come at the best time… I was overweight, always felt groggy and tired and just wasn’t happy with the way I looked or felt. But since Active Hub started, I have lost over 10kg, started running again and I am eating a lot healthier and I feel 1000% better.
I have introduced a lot of healthy new habits into my life, from daily cold plunges to daily exercise. I have even set myself my own challenge, where I want to go 100 days in a row of daily cold plunges and a form of exercise whether that be a run, hike, walk or gym. As of today (24/09/2024) I am on day 37 and loving every minute.
How does the Active Hub platform support your physical movement?
I think this supported me with a form of healthy/friendly competition, whether that be with the other teams or colleagues. Also, being able to track my progress.
How has participating in the challenges helped increase your engagement with other colleagues?
My manager asked a few of us if we fancied taking part… and then we signed up as a team. As mentioned before, the healthy competition helped with engagement of colleagues as well as supporting each other to hit the exercise goals.
Has having the Active Hub in place via your employer enabled you to lead a more active lifestyle?
100%... I don’t really see where I would have got the motivation to take the first step into becoming more active from. Now, I'm becoming a lot more active and with it a lot more confident. I also feel so much better.
What is your current active goal?
Well, I have a couple goals set, and as I mentioned I’m on day 37 of a self-imposed 100 day challenge and also on 28th Sept I set off with 3 friends to complete a 100km hike across South Downs way. However, when it comes to “Active goals” my main one is more of a mindset change and I will to become a fit and healthy person.
I went from basically not being active at all, except maybe walking 5/10mins to train station for work to losing 10kg and signing up for 100km hike and setting my own personal health and fitness challenges. This all started for signing up for Active Hub, it really lit a spark under me and I am very grateful. Its amazing what starting at half an hour a day can do… so thank you.
