Why do you feel it is important to lead a physically active lifestyle?
Staying active and getting outside is nothing less than essential to my physical and mental health. As a parent of young children, it's one thing I do for myself - as well as to make sure that I can still keep up with them when they're old enough to burn me off!
How does the Active Hub platform support your physical movement?
It encourages me to do something active every day - which can be hard to justify, but even a 15-minute walk in the middle of a day spent at my desk helps me refocus. And it's much less tempting to hop in the car for short journeys if I know I can also achieve a point in the latest Active Hub challenge by not doing so.
How has participating in Active Hub events helped increase your engagement with other colleagues?
I'm much less likely to skimp on getting out when it means letting others down, so the team challenges are an extra motivation. I also really like seeing a different side of my colleagues, and checking the app helps me feel connected on my non-working days without having to open my emails.
Has having the Active Hub in place via your employer enabled you to lead a more active lifestyle?
Definitely - it shows me that my employer cares about and supports my health and wellbeing. Previously I would avoid about taking a break or finishing early to do something active, even knowing that it would improve my overall productivity, but with Active Hub I feel less guilty about doing this, which makes it so much easier to fit regular and frequent activity into a hectic family schedule.
How do you like to keep active, what activities do you enjoy the most?
I love to combine being active with getting outside - running on my local trails (and on the fells / in the mountains when I can), Saturday morning parkruns with my family, and heading out on my road bike are my favourites.
What is your current active goal?
I'm trying very hard to maintain my fitness levels over the winter, and aim to run a faster time in my local 10-mile trail race in February than last year!
Staying active and getting outside is nothing less than essential to my physical and mental health. No matter what else is going on in my life, I never regret going out for a run or a ride - it can make a mediocre day into a good one, and is a lifeline in tough times.
