How do you like to keep active? What activities do you enjoy the most?
My main activity is running – I enjoy it not just from a keeping fit aspect but from a social aspect! I enjoy runs with girlfriends. I also enjoy walking, especially with my mums dog and on Friday mornings I try to met a friend for an early morning swim, gossip and coffee!
My first ever run was a Parkrun in 2013, no couch to 5K – Basically a friend invited me to do it with her and said “it’s not far, it’s only 5k”…. I had already considered starting to run so just went with her!
Why do you feel it is important to lead a physically active lifestyle?
I think that exercise helps a lot of peoples mental wellbeing, but my main reason for an active lifestyle is that as I get older I want to still be able to do things! I don’t want to just be sat in an armchair, I want to be out and about, have my health and know I can keep going longer! I firmly believe that the activity will mean I am healthy longer and if I have to face health challenges it will mean I am stronger to deal with them.
How does the Active Hub platform support your physical movement?
I happened to be at a meeting in a different building for Network Rail and saw a sign up in the ladies loo – I like the idea of the community and the badges!! Its also made me realise that very few of my colleagues actually do any exercise.
How has participating in Active Hub events helped increase your engagement with other colleagues?
I have sent the invite for teams to a few collagues that I do not work closely.
Has having the Active Hub in place via your employer enabled you to lead a more active lifestyle?
For me not really – I was already active and I only heard about it in September – but I can see why it would help motivates someone.
What is your current active goal?
My main aim is just to keep heathy – I do however like challenges, I have the Great South Run on the 19th Oct, a half marathon in February, full marathon April 2026. This year I attempted 100k in 1 day – It was the hottest day of the year – so I decided at 50k It was better to stop – so that is a challenge that I plan to re-try in 2027.
