How do you like to keep active? What activities do you enjoy the most?
I really enjoy running and challenge myself to try and run 100km a month. I started running in May 2021 and trained using the Couch to 5K app. I try and run 3 times a week and often run with my daughter Grace who is age 9. I’ve signed up for 2 half marathons next year and have done 2 halves previously in my home town of Bath.
Why do you feel it is important to lead a physically active lifestyle?
It’s really important not just for physical health but for mental wellbeing. Some of my best thoughts come to me when I am running and enjoying the countryside near to where I live.
How does the Active Hub platform support your physical movement?
I’ve enjoyed being part of a supportive team and giving each other kudos on Strava!
How has participating in the challenges helped increase your engagement with other colleagues?
We’ve got a little competitive and share stories at the weekly team meeting about what we’ve been up to and plans for the week. It’s a fun way to find out more about colleagues.
Has having the Active Hub in place via your employer enabled you to lead a more active lifestyle?
To be honest, I was already very active, but it’s helped me encourage others to do something – even if it’s that first step. I recently went on my first run from the office on the Southbank. I took my colleague, Mark with me who is just getting into running. We enjoyed a 5k together along the river one evening in August, it was beautiful, and I helped Mark as his running buddy.
What is your current active goal?
To maintain my 100k a month and complete the 2 half marathons next week. I turn 40 this year (OMG) so I really want to maintain a healthy lifestyle into the next decade of my life.
Fitness means so much to me - both for my physical and mental health but also just making some time for me each week!
