How do you like to keep active? What activities do you enjoy the most?
I used to love running and participate in short distance Triathlons pre Covid, however, since then I seemed to have taken a step (unlike most other people) back simply due to being indoors during that time and stopped exercising as intensely.
I have since found what may seem like more sedate activities but equally challenging activities, nonetheless. I took up walking and hiking, Yoga and Reformer Pilates for core fitness, improved posture and toning those muscles.
Going back to basics has helped me reevaluate my fitness, strengthen my body, sort out injuries and get mentally fitter by setting myself smaller targets. I’m on the path to rebuilding my fitness to a new and improved version of me.
Why do you feel it is important to lead a physically active lifestyle?
I feel it’s not only great for your physical health and fitness, but it provides a complete balance when it comes to mental, nutritional, spiritual and emotional fitness. It also translates into other areas of your life.
It’s also great to keep mobile especially as we are an aging population, therefore having a fitness activity that you love will keep you motivated to stay active and mobile and keep you supported until much later in life, if we are to live longer, than why not live it to the best of our mobility and ability! class='highlight'p>
How does the Active Hub platform support your physical movement?
I have loved the Active Hub challenge. It’s spurred on my cardio exercises by setting myself little challenges to achieve daily, which has forced me away from my chair to the outdoors.
How has participating in team events helped increase your engagement with other colleagues?
Being in a group means we get to support one another, it creates a great sense of community amongst colleagues, which enhances wellbeing & happy hormones – positive things all around!
Has having the Active Hub in place via your employer enabled you to lead a more active lifestyle?
Yes. I have signed up to future challenges to keep the momentum going.
What is your current active goal?
The Active August goal is my current challenge, which is to achieve 100km through walking, running, cycling or rowing – hopefully it will get me running up to 5km by the end of this month!
Energy breeds energy: the more you move the more energy you create to keep moving!
