Train Driver Instructor
Rodrigo Freeman Lopez
What inspired you to take part in the Railway: 200 Miles of History Challenge?
I heard about the challenge from the GWR Strava Group. Jed Ardren, our team captain who is also based in Penzance decided to form a team and invited me, Ian and Maz. Jed gave us a massive head start by completing a long ultramarathon during the first weekend if the challenge. As I'm attempting to run the length of Wales from this Thu, it coincided with me increasing my volume of training.
What part of the challenge did you enjoy most?
I enjoyed keeping an eye how other teams were getting on and how our team was moving through the virtual map.
What positive changes have you noticed since taking part?
Running has been part of my essence for many years; it improves my mood and allows me to feel more alert and motivated at work.
How did the Active Hub platform support your experience throughout the challenge?
The app seemed easy to navigate and subscribe.
Would you like to see your company launch its own Active Hub with exclusive challenges for your team to take part in?
There seems to be a lot of active people working for GWR, creating our own challenges will just motivate people to continue training and hopefully encourage others to join.
What’s your next active goal now that the challenge has finished?
From Thursday I'm taking part in the Lon Las Cymru, a 250 mile ultramarathon starting in Holyhead and finishing in Cardiff Bay with a cut-off of 88hrs. This event is organised by Cockbain Events.
No matter how hard your day has been, every morning is an opportunity to restart.
