Recognising the limitations of traditional gym discounts that reached fewer than 2% of employees, Avanti shifted to an inclusive, technology-powered movement programme. The Avanti Active Hub was designed to celebrate all forms of movement, engage a diverse workforce, and build a more connected, energised company culture.

  • Avanti's Wellbeing Team faced several challenges they wanted to address around physical wellbeing:

    • Gym discounts were underused (only 4% uptake), highlighting un-inclusive employee benefit.
    • A diverse, location-based workforce with varying shift patterns.
    • A need to measure physical wellbeing while promoting mental and physical health.
    • Desire for a more connected employee community across departments.
  • Total Active Hub implemented a three-pillar strategy to boost engagement and inclusivity across Avanti West Coast:

    • Inclusive, Team-Based Challenges. We launched movement challenges that welcomed all activity types and fitness levels, encouraging collaboration across departments and locations.
    • Enhanced Gym Access. Employees gained access to the UK's largest gym and health club network, offering more choice and flexibility as part of a broader, inclusive wellbeing offer.
    • Active Rewards. We introduced monthly rewards to celebrate participation and consistency - not just performance - creating a positive, supportive movement culture across the business.
    • Extension of the Team. Total Active Hub acted as an extension of Avanti's wellbeing team, providing hands-on support, campaign planning, and regular insights to keep the programme engaging and on track.
  • The Avanti Active Hub significantly increased employee engagement and movement.

    • 15% explored gym options, compared to 4% using the prevision supplier.
    • Over 300 minutes of weekly movement per employee recorded.
    • A strong movement culture embedded across offices and stations.
    • Daily activity spikes observed during key hours, notably 8–9am and lunchtime.
    • Positive peer motivation through referrals, team challenges, and shared success stories.

    • Active Winners: Each month, we celebrate colleagues who take part, recognising not just the top performers, but everyone contributing to a more active Avanti.
  • Everyday movement is creating huge energy and engagement within Avanti West Coast; here are just some of the stats:

    • Most active hour: 8–9am, with a lunchtime spike 12–1pm.
    • Most active day: Tuesday.
    • 539 challenges set up.
    • Walking was the most popular activity (54%).
    • 100% of employee would recommend the Active Hub
